Dilute Urine Specimen Follow-up Recommendations

When a urine specimen is dilute – that is, when the creatinine and specific gravity readings are below valid levels – a negative test result can be misleading. More concentrated urine samples have more reliable results. That’s because a dilute specimen has a lower ratio of water to substances, including the drugs the urine testing is designed to catch.
